The Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) is a government agency. We conduct world-leading research in defence and security in support of Sweden's military and civil defence.

With a focus on understanding, explaining and bringing about change, we produce new knowledge and expert support. Much of this work is done together with others, especially various allied partners within NATO. Our research is applied by defence agencies and civilian actors, and it plays a crucial role in building a relevant and effective defence capability.

CERN

At CERN, our work helps to uncover what the universe is made of and how it works. We do this by providing a unique range of particle accelerator facilities to researchers, to advance the boundaries of human knowledge.

Physicists and engineers at CERN use the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles. Subatomic particles are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives us clues about how the particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. We want to advance the boundaries of human knowledge by delving into the smallest building blocks of our universe.

The instruments used at CERN are purpose-built particle accelerators and detectors. Accelerators boost beams of particles to high energies before the beams are made to collide with each other or with stationary targets. Detectors observe and record the results of these collisions.

Founded in 1954, the CERN laboratory sits astride the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva. It was one of Europe’s first joint ventures and now has 25 member states.

STUDENT PARTICIPATION

Teknologkåren

The Technological Union is a member-driven and member-democratic organization that does everything to make your study time the best possible. Even though we are primarily aimed at engineering students, we work based on your education, your student life and your future and do everything to create an as active, fun and stimulating environment as possible for all students at Luleå University of Technology.

Kirunasektionen

Kirunasektionen is a fully student driven non-profit association under the student union of technology, Teknologkåren, at Luleå University of Technology (LTU).

We are staffed by volunteering students who are democratically elected every year during the annual meeting in February or March. Our board includes a president, a treasurer, a vice president, an education coordinator,  a board member, a union council representative of Teknologkåren, an info/PR manager,  and a representative of each subassociation under us.

Our main objective is to support the students of Kiruna Space Campus and do our best to make the time you spend in Kiruna the best it can be.

Giron Space Organisation, GSO
